Top 5 from the Week #17 (ft. Juice WRLD, The Roots, Childish Gambino, Lil Wayne, and Lil Baby)

This has been a great music for me music-wise! I haven’t necessarily discovered a lot of new stuff (there have been a couple of albums, though), but I have spent a lot of time with older songs, and the newer songs that I have heard this week have been top tier. This is the first week in a while that I actually had a quick list of my Top 5s!

Also….new playlist page

“Smile” – Juice WRLD and The Weeknd

I don’t want to say too much about Juice WRLD because I have a First Listen for Legends Never Die (2020) planned for Monday (and I’ve already talked about him before), but I need to just say how much I love this song. I didn’t really know what to expect after I saw some things circulating around that this song was about to drop, since I hadn’t had any experience with Juice’s music beforehand. But I have listened to this song so many times in the past day! And it threw me back into my sad boy phase lol. I love Juice and Abel on this track together. There’s always something eerie about hearing “new” music from someone who has died, but I’m glad that this song came out.

It also inspired me to make this playlist.

“Rising Up” – The Roots (ft. Wale and Chrisette Michele)

I listened to this song for the first time, while I was in high school I think. I was going through a mini Chrisette Michele phase (lol don’t ask me why, ’cause I don’t know), and this was a song that popped up when I was looking through her features. It’s a really amazing song. Every single part of it is absolutely fire, and it comes together so well. The verses, the hook…it’s all GREAT.

“Stand Tall” – Childish Gambino

I’ve already talked about how I almost cried listening to this song during my First Listen for “Awaken, My Love!” (2016) earlier this week. I have since held back many a tear listening to this song about a dozen more times.

“A Milli” – Lil Wayne

Lol the other day I spent hours listening to songs from 2000-2010. Y’all. What a 10 years worth of music! Like…..that was PEAK!!!! I remember rapping this song in the back of my social studies class in sixth grade, with this girl that was kind of my friend lol. I was so hype when I finally learned all the words; I think that was when I was going through my 2-week Lil Wayne phase (that I’m glad I jumped out of). I don’t know why I was loving him so much, but I did end up spending a lot of time with songs from Tha Carter III (2008) because of it. LOL I also have a 2000-2010 playlist, if you wanna hit that up.

“Catch the Sun” – Lil Baby

I don’t really have a lot to say about this song other than it’s literally one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. I love this song. Every since I heard it, I’ve gone back to it over and over because I just can’t BELIEVE that a song like this exists. I love the production. I love Lil Baby’s voice on this. The video is beautiful. Lil Baby looks GREAT in a turtleneck. Y’all know how I feel about Black women being loved on in music videos. There’s just so MUCH!!!! I want the soundtrack to my life to end with this song.

Top 5 from the Week #16 (ft. Benny the Butcher, De La Soul, FKA Twigs, Rex Orange County, and Childish Gambino)

Wow. Happy August. WTF is time????? How is it August right now???? I’ve been listening to a lot of songs from past Top 5s recently, which has been nice! But that also made it difficult for me to think of other songs to put for the Top 5 for this week. Luckily, I had literally … Continue reading Top 5 from the Week #16 (ft.
