It’s a very rainy Friday here in Georgia. Not happy about it. Woke up with some HORRIFIC stomach cramps – if you know, you know lol – so I was hoping to be able to have some sunshine to make me feel better. But I didn’t just have some BOMB blueberry waffles that I made when I woke up – so I could take some pain meds lol – and now I’m sitting in my bed with my blankets, all cozied up. My cat is sleeping at the end of the bed. I’m watching Better Call Saul from the beginning for the third time – on the fifth episode of season 2 right now, ready to see Gustavo Fring in about 5 episodes ❤ so all I hear as I’m typing this up is DRAMA lol. So everything isn’t all bad. I did anticipate the rain (I’m like 65 years older in my brain than I actually am irl, and I always look at the weather app on my phone in the morning, so I can be prepared lol), so I took the pictures for this yesterday in the hour of sun I had before some pre-storm clouds rolled in. So hopefully they’re not too bad 🙂
This week we have Lord Finesse’s ‘The Awakening’ (VMP 2020)
the 15 tracks that make up The Awakening come on a single LP. the record itself is clear with gold and black splatter. the splatter is supposed to be all the way around the record, but um…as you can can see something happened with mine, and i have quite a big blank spot lol. but i kinda like it.
It’s funny because this was originally a project I DID NOT want. I was hoping, after being very happy with my first Record of the Month from Vinyl Me Please, to have another exciting one to add to my collection. But when they announced that The Awakening was the project they chose for August’s hip hop track, I was a little irritated. I didn’t know who Lord Finesse was, and therefore, had never heard this project. I was hoping to be able to swap it for something I wanted – like I did to get Orion Sun’s Hold Space for Me (2020), but when I looked at the swap options last month, there was nothing there I wanted. And I didn’t want to swap for a store credit, because lol the VMP store hip hop section is always half out of stock, so there was nothing there I wanted.
I did listen to the project before I got it, and I didn’t hate it. I figured maybe having a physical copy would make me like it a lot more, since I was stuck with it. And that was exactly the case lol. I listened to it the day after I got it and really enjoyed the experience. The intro track is SO FIRE, and it sets up the rest of the project very well. I actually ended up having the urge to listen to it again the next day. So all in all, I’m happy to have Lord Finesse’s project in my collection. Definitely a worthy member of my library.

I’ve finally gotten my life together enough to add a series on here where I show off my vinyl collection in real life, instead of just on Discogs. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while! As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve gotten really into collecting records over the past couple of months (it’s helping … Continue reading vinyl library #1: smino’s ‘blkswn’
