Top 5 from the Week #19 (ft. Kelly Finnigan, Calvin Harris & The Weeknd, TWOFACE, Lucky Daye, Mos Def)

Happy Saturday, folks. This has been an um…interesting week lol. I’ve started coming to a lot of realizations in my life (for better or worse), which has taken up a lot of mental space than I would prefer. But that’s where I am in my life, I guess. I’m currently in the midst of my weekly Saturday-chore smackdown, so the sound of the washer running is partially drowning out the sound of the beginning of “All of the Lights,” as I listen to Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). Bought it for my record collection, after seeing someone mention that it was starting to become hard to find, and therefore, more expensive. I remembered seeing it a couple of weeks ago while purchasing a different record, so I shimmied my way back over to that website to buy it. I did NOT realize this album will be 10 YEARS OLD in November!! That’s so WILD to me. 10 YEARS!!!!! So I’m kinda hoping that we get a 10 year anniversary release of this project. The quality of the records aren’t bad, but this project is too BEAUTIFUL and grand to sound like I’m just listening to it on Spotify. Happy to have it in my collection regardless, though. Also WOW. Rick Ross on “Devil in a New Dress.” GEEZ. I forgot how great it sounds on that song!

speaking of my beautiful dark twisted fantasy…

My Favorite’s of All Time #6: Kanye West’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’

I remember very vividly getting in big trouble when I was in middle school – right around the time My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010) came out. I don’t actually remember what I got in trouble for, but because I love music so much, my mom thought that a good punishment for me was to … Continue reading My Favorite’s of All Time #6: Kanye West’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’

“Catch Me I’m Falling” – Kelly Finnigan

There’s this YouTube channel that I watch sometimes called CinemaWins, where this guy goes through and talks about all of the great parts of a movie. I don’t know why I like watching those videos, but I can EASILY watch 4 or 5 of them in a row, and often they’re about 20 minutes long. The other night, I was watching his review of the new Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) movie – haven’t seen it, can’t give you a review on it lol – and there was a scene in the movie that was playing one of the most glorious sounds I had ever heard. Cut to: me scouring the internet to find out the name of the song. Lo and behold: Kelly Finnigan’s “Catch Me I’m Falling.” Such a wonderful wonderful “I wanna be in love” type of song. Really glad I was able to find it.

“Roll Some Mo” – Lucky Daye

I already talk about Lucky Daye’s Painted (2019) – and “Roll Some Mo” – here. Amazing track.

“Sex, Love & Money” – Yasiin Bey

I’m working my way through Yasiin Bey’s (very short) discography, after being thoroughly impressed with Black on Both Sides (1999) and deciding to stan. I’ve listened to the majority of The New Danger (2004), and I’m just as impressed. I do like Black on Both Sides better, but I love the different sounds that Yasiin is giving us on The New Danger. A lot more rock tracks, some jazz tracks, hip hop of course. It’s a really good project. I heard “Sex, Love & Money” for the first time while out on a walk the other day, and listened to it another 5 times afterwards. There’s just something about this track that I am completely and utterly here for.

“Over Now” – Calvin Harris & The Weeknd

I’ve already talked before about how much I love this song. According to Last.FM – you can find my listening history here – I’ve listened to it 43 times in the past week lol. I’m obviously obsessed.

I don’t wanna talk too much about this song because I have something coming for this entire project, BUT just know…it’s GREAT.

Top 5 from the Week #18 (ft. Baby Rose, Black Eyed Peas, Mariah Carey, and The Weeknd)

It’s Saturday. Which means that I’m up before the sun, so that I can write this up and schedule it before I spend the rest of the day doing stuff around the house. My Saturdays usually include feeding me and my cat before washing clothes, cleaning all the blankets in the house, etc. and remaking … Continue reading Top 5 from the Week #18 (ft.
